Surface Material Engineers – Interior Engineering

Interior Engineering is the department within R&D focused on delivering world-class interior for our future cars. We are responsible for all phases of the development, i.e. annual work, advanced engineering, concept development, industrialization, current model quality and cost reduction. We work to a large extent in a cross-functional product development process together with Purchasing, Design, Manufacturing, Product Planning and of course the other development units within R&D.

We are now looking to strengthen our Surface Material group, where we develop all surface material in our cars. Together with Design, the developing teams and our suppliers, we are responsible to make sure that our materials are producible and fulfills all necessary testing. We work with all visible materials in our cars such as textile, leather, plastic grain, carpets and decos. We are now looking for new co-workers to extend our team. All surface material knowledge is of interest but mainly textile, leather, wood and aluminum. Together with other teams within our Volvo Cars organization, you will be developing our future materials.

Main responsibilities

  • Delivery of materials and masters with correct appearance and haptic to our new car programs
  • Contact with suppliers and system designers
  • Making and keeping time plans of the deliveries
  • Contact with Product Design
  • Constantly work with developing our processes to be more efficient and World Class within your area

Required qualifications

  • University Degree within Materials Technology or Textile Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with leather as a material
  • Knowledge working with wood as a material is meritorious
  • A good colour sight/vision
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

  • Structured and well planned
  • Strong ability to build up and use your network
